Because for many of us whose ancestors left home for a better life, our bones know the journey this wave of Central Americans takes
Whether one or many generations in the US, we have immigrant/refugee/asylum-seeking blood running through our veins
As they are now, we have been “the other;” the “they,” “them,” “these people:”
The Irish Need Not Apply (1850s), the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, and the “Who Killa da Chief” (anti-Italian phrase in 1890s)
So let’s support our brothers and sisters from the south, and share our stories, showing who they really are: us
And help turn a fearful narrative into a brighter truth
Share your immigrant/refugee/asylum-seeking story on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using #WeAreThem
Or send it to us at stories@wearethemproject.org
We’ll feature as many stories as we can here.
We also encourage you to support our Central American brothers and sisters and extend a hand like the one—or many—our families or ourselves received (or wish we had) when we came to the US.
Donations go to RAICES’ Family Assistance Fund, which provides necessities to families who’re waiting for their asylum cases to be heard and as they settle in communities.
Learn how We Are Them started & its mission. Also, shout outs to everyone involved in making this happen and continue to happen.
Show the love and support for this cause and share it with your friends and followers so more people can be a part of We Are Them.
We’ll be reading, posting, and featuring immigration/refugee/asylum-seeking stories. Come along with us on this journey!
